Right Breed 4 U?

First and foremost we strongly suggest the purchase of the book;

"The Art Of Raising A puppy", written by, The Monks Of New Skete.

We feel that this book is invaluable and is the very best that an ethical breeder or breed advocate can do regarding the proper raising and socialization of their individual puppies/ dogs.

Also, regarding the purchase of a new purebred puppy.....

Please keep in mind that 8 to 12 week old puppies are like "toddlers with teeth" and sleep an average of 6 hours, per night, at first.

Now then, if you are still interested and in this for the long haul .....

Please DO read on!

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi:

The Pembroke Welsh Corgis are whimsical creatures (known as the "Pixie Steed" in many storybooks and fables) but they also harness a great "work ethic". If trained properly, they can be a wonderful all around ranch hand and they are quite willing to either assist in the movement of livestock or be a tireless companion in child's play.

While the Pembroke Corgi can be a sensitive listener they also come in a compact and tough little package.

These little canines are a wonderful, loving addition to any family and they will immediately blend in with their surroundings ... all the while  causing their people to wonder how they ever got along without them.

The "CAT" in the dog suit.

The Shiba Inu:

Shibas are quite the cartoon characters of the dog world.  They are extremely clever and while they can sometimes be a bit stubborn about trivial tricks, they learn very quickly.  Some will greet their families at the door with a chortle or song while others will bring an offering of their favorite toy.  Shibas are very "cat like" and can even be litter box trained.

They will also acclimate nicely with any cats in their household, as long as they are raised with them and are never allowed the game of "chase the cat".

Shibas are a hunting breed so mind the leash laws in your city as a "stray" cat or squirrel could cause a temptation too great to resist. Shibas are considered to be one of the smaller breeds yet they are not yappy dogs.  The Shiba is also a very talented watch dog.  If a Shiba is barking GO LOOK as there will most likely be a very good reason.  If an intruder does not heed the warning barks of a Shiba defending it's household they'd better watch their ankles!

It has been said that Shibas are direct descendants of the Wild Dingo, whose genetic heritage has been traced all the way  back to Asia. Go online and See, the "Dingo Discovery" site for pictures of wild Dingoes and amazing proof of this theory.

Shibas are a very hardy and tough little breed.  They, like the Akita, however, are very aggressive towards all other dogs of the same sex and will not back down to a presumed opponent no matter that it may be twice its size. This means that you can have as many dogs in your household as you wish but... they'd better all be of the opposite sex of your Shiba.

*NO, OFF LEASH, DOG FACILITIES WITH THE SHIBA BREED PLEASE!!!!

The Akita Inu:

The Akita is a no nonsense breed and requires zero guard dog training.  Centuries of breeding has done all that for you.  Meeting a properly trained Akita is a mesmerizing experience to behold. They are an absolutely beautiful breed and are quite majestic....even as puppies. They are also a very loyal and a natural family companion and guardian. What is required with this breed is socialization galore!  If you or someone in your family does not have the time for daily socialization and or walks, with your new Akita puppy/ dog, (Once all their shot series are completed), you may want to reconsider and get a home alarm system instead. Canines are social animals and so without proper socialization and training , this breed can grow up to be a liability. Proper socialization and early training is of the utmost importance.  You will get back whatever you put in "Ten Fold".  One cannot expect a "Lassie"  to evolve out of a dog that has been isolated in your backyard.

When dealing with a breed that will be close to or in excess of 100 pounds, as an adult, it is imperative to teach your dog, early on, to trust people and to make certain that it is taught proper house and public etiquette.

Your Akita can never be too friendly to protect you.

In choosing a breed to suit your needs, please be aware that the Akita is dog aggressive towards ALL other canines of the same gender. Therefore, should you already have a canine in your household make sure that your Akita is of the opposite sex.

*NO, OFF LEASH, DOG FACILITIES WITH THE AKITA BREED PLEASE!

All in all either of these two guardian breeds are a wonderful choice for any family looking for a "dual purpose" canine companion and guardian.
